Yesterday I was watching a debate on the lokpal bill on Times Now here where Cho ramaswamy was one of the panelists. All his argument through out the debate was how can any legislation be passed through an agitation of this kind. The problem with people of high IQ like Cho is they tend to analyse every situation and suspect anything that goes against the written laws.According to him what if tomorrow Amitabh Bachan and Shah Rukh Khan sits on an agitation to replace India Penal Code with Jan Penal Code (huh!!),People would involve more passionately with such an agitation. He also blamed the media for creating such an outcry on the fast and blowing it bigger than what it actually is.He also further went on referring the whole fast as farce comparing the fast of Anna Hazare with T20 match and Kiran Bedi being cheerleader
He is just one of the lot among several others who is frustrated by the agitation that has been taking place country wide for more than a week. Each person is entitled to their views but what is really heart wrenching is that their opinion about People of India which requires rebuttal.Their Indirect reference to people of India being fools is really a stance that needs to be addressed. If People of India were so naive to stand behind whoever protests why wasnt there any recent countrywide protests so far.?There were lot other issues that need to be addressed. Is this the first protest happening in recent times?.There was even so called fast staged by karunanidhi protesting(huh!!) against the genocide of Srilankan Tamils .Why wasnt it blown big.?Infact he was the CM then.If people of Tamil Nadu were so personality frenzy or media frenzy as some of them suggests why didnt State people blindly agitate showing their support to him?Even in recent times there have been protests here and there to stop the capital punishment of people who were convicted for Rajiv Gandhi's assasination? Why wasnt such protests receive not coutry wide but atleast statewide agitation?the answer is simple.People are full fledged to show their anger only on issues that they feel that requires serious attention ,the one that is directly affecting them. Moreover I doubt if Shah rukh khan and Amitabh Bachan are so brave enough of showing their concern towards the society that thy would go on a fast on such a burning issue when they hardly voice their opinion on issues even when someone else was taking the lead.?Even if they do what is wrong in following them.Following a cause does not necessarily mean follwing a persona. We have seen that happening in Tamil Nadu. There were people behind MGR when he started a political party and there were others who incurred failure in politics although they were successful in their own domain like Sivaji Ganesan. When there is an agitation against a burning issue people show their support not to the personality who is leading the cause but for the cause itself which eventually gets associated with anyone who leads it.This is what the whole episode of Anna Hazare teaches us.
Therefore,Cho's defence may well be received for argument sake but need not necessarily be the truth. The tolerance of people to any misdeeds of the government may be a weakness but not really the one that questions their intelligence. Not everybody gets a paltform to voice their opinion but when they do get they dont want to let it go.It could even be an electoral platform like the one election in Tamil Nadu or a nationwide protest like Anna Hazare's.This recent agitation against corruption has shown the GOI that the responsibility of the people just do not end with casting their vote but also voicing their opinion whenever need arises.

No doubt it is. I think "un-biased" media is the backbone of any democracy.
